We had a dream to start a music school... one day... maybe when our kids were grown? But instead, January of 2020 was when we pushed publish on this site & started this whole thing!
(I know. 2020? It's laughable.)
Little did we know, the world would shut down less than 3 months later & our whole studio would move online. (It was a wild time!) A year later, we opened our actual garage door and started all over again in person. (This was not the original plan, but ya know? It works!)

We met while pursuing music degrees and after 3 years of being just friends, we realized we were better together! Alicia started teaching voice and piano lessons during her first gig as a Chorus and Music Teacher. Nate started teaching drums and guitar and we've been making music ever since.

Over the last 17 years we've adventured from Atlanta to Chicago... and now enjoy roasting marshmallows and taking care of our family in the small town of Sharpsburg! During our time in Chicago we fell in love with deep dish pizza & added 3 spicy gingers to our family! Our adventures have allowed us to work with musicians in various roles including theatre, library shows, choruses, lessons, rock bands, worship bands, and school performances.

Here at Grassroots Music we want everyone to LOVE MUSIC! We want students to feel encouraged in their learning, to be celebrated by their peers & gaining confidence on their musical journey.
And yes... we teach adults too! AND WE LOVE IT!

We are HUGE fans of Trader Joes, Deep Dish Pizza & Dance Parties! Click below for Alicia's TJ's Must Haves!

We are excited to have your family join ours as we learn & grow together!

"There is so much magic that happens when you take lessons with Nate and Alicia!! They make learning a new instrument/ voice lessons so much fun. You can tell this because the kids get so fired up about their lessons every week and get super pumped about their recitals. Not only do the kids have fun, but they learn so much! I would give them a million stars if I could. Grassroots truly has a heart for teaching kids music and fostering a love for expressing oneself in creative and positive ways."
